Mediation Services Provide In-House Peacemakers
March 2018 (Wyoming) – Pence and MacMillan is pleased to offer foremost mediation services from our skilled and seasoned mediators, Retired Judge Jeffrey A. Donnell, Scott W. Meier, and Devon O’Connell. Their mediation services are available for matters large and small, including personal injury, family law, real estate, trust administration, business complications and general civil actions across Wyoming.
“My sentiment toward mediation,” says O’Connell, “follows a quote from Lincoln – ‘Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can. As a peacemaker, the lawyer has the superior opportunity of being a good man. There will still be business enough.’”
O’Connell’s peacemaker approach to mediation earns Pence and MacMillan a trusted mediation client base. One client says they feel that mediation not only allowed them to avoid court, but also provided an agreement process that was smoother than expected.
“My client’s case was individualized to Devon and my client felt heard and understood,” says one Laramie Attorney. “Mediation solved all the outstanding problems and kept us from a court battle where satisfaction would not be likely found. We are glad we chose the mediation route instead of trial. Devon made a difference in my client’s life and she was so pleased with how beneficial and smooth the process was.”
O’Connell has practiced in the areas of family law and civil litigation for 17 years. She obtained her 40-hour mediation training from CDR Associates in Boulder, Colorado. She also successfully completed Advanced Mediation training for complex disputes at the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation. She has extensive litigation and mediation experience across Wyoming.
Donnell spent 19 years litigating cases across Wyoming, and the next 20 years on the district court bench. He has succeeded in mediating numerous cases, and his practice focuses solely on mediation.
Meier has substantial experience in taxation, estate planning and business planning. As a Certified Public Accountant since 1985, Scott is very familiar with individual, business and estate tax issues. His law practice over the past 21 years includes entity formation, corporate governance, transactions, real estate and banking/credit unions. Meier has mediated several trust/probate administration matters as well as a number of business separation disputes.
